Visual model of what I’m trying to do with my outcomes work April 28, 2009

It isĀ here. At the top is my high level outcome ‘Make working with outcomes, monitoring, evaluation etc. easier’ and below that is all of the lower-level steps I am using to get to this high-level outcome. I have included hyperlinks out to the various web sites where I am attempting to do the things listed in the lower-level steps.

Surely the point is not just to make it easier? A lot of your work is about making it more useful and constructive - that is, actually contributing to better interventions. I’ve seen a lot of very bad guides to evaluation that certainly make it easier - but would lead to poor quality evaluations and, through iatrogenic effects like goal displacement, lead to worse interventions and worse outcomes for intended beneficiaries.
Yes Patricia you are dead right. In fact your comment inspired me to write a knol article about a number of the over-simplifications which can be found in thinking about outcomes and evaluation. I will do my next blog posting on it.
