Developing an M&E plan using a visual approach January 8, 2010
Posted by Paul Duignan in : Doing evaluation more efficiently, Using the approach, Evaluation planning, Easy Outcomes, DoView , trackbackOn various lists I am on I often see requests by people wanting to develop what is called an M&E plan. This terminology is often used in the international development area. It refers to a Monitoring and Evaluation Plan. The way these requests are made makes me think that the way you should monitor and evaluate different projects varies a great deal.
Obviously, the actual things you measure will differ between projects, but in my view there is a common underlying approach to developing monitoring and evaluation plans in any area. Instead of continuing to separately post responses to lots of people about how they should develop a monitoring and evaluation plan for their project, I have developed a general article about how to develop a monitoring and evaluation plan for any program.
It is based around using a visual approach. The article is Duignan, P. (2010). M&E Systems - How to Build an affordable simple monitoring and evaluation system using a visual approach. Outcomes Theory Knowledge Base Article No. 267. (http://knol.google.com/k/paul-duignan-phd/m-e-systems-how-to-build-an-affordable/2m7zd68aaz774/134).
Check it out, if you have any comments about how to improve it, put them at the bottom of the article.
